Who should be blamed for childhood obesity? The restaurants or parents?

SO I was reading that some parents are trying to sue McDonald’s for serving such bad food to their children, and I was watching another documentary that was saying that fast food restaurants such as Burger King, and KFC are only located in low income areas, and that there should be laws regulating the number of restaurants located in low income areas.

I agree that there should be a regulation on the number of restaurants located in low income areas, and that the government should force healthier produce into low income areas so that people can get it, but that’s just my opinion.

Parents and children should research what they are eating and stop trying to blame people for their lack of parenting.

I eat junk food once in a while, and have stopped eating meat because of the poor quality supplied to restaurants because it is cheaper to buy the poor quality and pay the fees than to buy better quality meat.

do you really think the government will stop ban KFC and McDonald’s in low income areas? AS far as I know, they are only located in low income areas, so they would be gone completely.

comments? California has banned happy meals so now now one can supply them to their children, but there are still other more expensive restaurants that sell bad food, who aren’t being criticized.

Example, One Vente Starbucks coffee has a minimum of 320 calories! I don’t see anyone complaining about that! In fact the average American drinks starbucks twice a day which means you are getting at least 640 calories just from a drink!

Even more expensive restaurants serve food that isn’t good for you. The quality of the fruits, vegetables, and meat might be higher than that at fast food chains, BUT they cover it with sauce, salt and butter making the nutrition value almost as bad or lower than that of fast food chains!

I think the food industry on a whole needs to look at what their serving people and realize that it’s right to serve anyone such poor meals. I prefer to cook at home, sometimes I just eat cereal but I force myself to eat better!

For those who didn’t know, *cough* T K fast food places are located in low income areas because members of the lower and working class usually cannot afford to buy healthier foods.

For reasons which I don’t understand, fruits and vegetables are more expensive than unhealthier options, which makes a $0.99 taco from taco bell seem so great! They can get “food” so cheaply and feed more members of their family.

I decided to ask this question, because I wanted to get others feed back on the issue. Many parents claim that it’s the governments fault for not putting a ban on the number of fast food restaurants there are in the neighbohood, yet they cannot walk the extra distance to the grocery store to get fresh fruit.

I understand these are hard times, and there are people who simply cannot buy food but there has to be options? Frozen fruit and vegetables are cheaper than fresh ones, and sometimes have the same nutrition value, provided it’s not that one covered in cheese.

Parents. Because if they don’t want their kids to eat it, they could tell them no. Simple as that.

I personally think the parents should be absolutely held responsible, not the restaurants at all, even if the restaurants DO contain very unhealthy food! Unhealthy food, taken in small portions and in moderation along with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle probably isn’t destructive enough to be harmful anyway, but certain people may try to make it seem that way. It’s overdoing the fast-food for instance that’s the problem, and eating it for strange reasons such as “having it as a buddy” lol. To hold a restaurant responsible for YOUR actions is nothing but a further insult at yourself, being done by yourself! I can’t believe somebody can even possibly HAVE a case to begin with with a topic like this.

California did NOT ban Happy Meals. Silicone Valley did which happens to be in California.

Your article about fast food implies poor people are targeted. Does that make sense? They’re poor! They can’t afford fast food. More likely it has to do with people in other neighborhoods banning together to keep the heavy traffic from fast food joints and Wal marts out. Let’s face it, poor neighborhoods have bigger things to worry about and don’t mind the jobs provided from such places.

How about people worry more about the real problem (education) rather than trying to do quick fixes later (banning fast food).

But remember we’re too busy blaming the restaurants when it’s the PEOPLE who CHOOSE to go to these places. The restaurants post the amount of calories, sodium and fat on their websites, so people can know what is inside the food. With the info, we can make wise ( or not so wise ) decisions.

Also, more restaurants are introducing healthier options ( even though salads can be as fattening as a burger if you’re not careful! ) so people DO have a choice between if they want a grilled chicken sandwich or a crispy. And you can choose a salad with a light dressing. With your burger you DO have a choice to have a side salad instead of large fries.

Anyway, even eating the unhealthy stuff in moderation is okay. It’s when people over do the fast food is when it is bad.

this is a typical parents not to take responsibility for their actions.
